Bipolar Advocacy Through Dance
Rhythms of the mind: Raising awareness for Bi-polar disorder through effective dance movement
I worked with High School Junior YG on her project to bring awareness to the experiences of people diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. After months of research, interviews with eight diagnosed individuals between 30 and 50 years of age, and coaching on advoacy language and best practices she created this moving people.
The piece begins in a darker emotional space, reflecting fading relationships and isolation. It then shifts into episodes of manic energy and overstimulation, capturing a sense of chaos and urgency. This builds into a battle—a confrontation with oneself—that leads to a moment of resolution. But rather than a neat conclusion, the piece ultimately returns to its beginning, symbolizing a never-ending cycle.
